So Tired!

I have felt so tired today! For the past couple days, I have been teaching two classes in one day, that means a full day! I'd forgotten how tiring it can be to teach all day long! I've definitely had some changes at work.  Last week, my boss informed me that one of the AM teachers was quitting and asked if I would be interested in the position.  Of course, I agreed. They are closing my PM class @ the end of the month because two of my students are heading back to their home countries and there just aren't enough students enrolled. So now I will be teaching an AM beginners class. I started teaching it on Thursday and will continue to teach both of the classes through next week. After that, I'll just have my morning class.

So a week ago Wednesday was our final interview w/ Boystown.  We drove down to Trabuco Canyon and actually got to meet a bunch of the employees and the kids. We were there for about 2.5 hours and it was extremely informative. They said that they were interviewing a couple other couples and would let us know by the end of this week. So D and I have been waiting anxiously to hear back from them for the past week and a half. They finally called us today and it looks like they decided to go with a different couple. I'll admit that I'm slightly disappointed, but honest, I'm mostly relieved.  I don't know what happened last week during our visit up there, but something clicked off in my brain and I felt that it just wasn't going to work out.  I LOVED the whole set up, I thought it was great. I liked the other couples, I loved the kids that we met....but it just didn't feel like a right fit for this current time.

I've had this nagging feeling for the past week that Boystown is not where we're supposed to be right now. I felt like our interviews went really well...I mean, we got really far in the process. I know that they liked us. On the voicemail they were saying that they're still really interested in us and want to know if we're still interested. If another position would open up in the near future, I think we could be a shoo in for the position. The lady was saying that they've had couples go through the process for a second time and it works out.  I think there was just another couple that was a better fit right now.  And I agree, I think this was the right decision. We had been praying for God's will in the situation and I fully believe that this was indeed His will.  There has to be some reason that we went through this process. I know that something will come out of our experience, although I don't know what exactly.  It's just strange how things work out though.  I've begun to notice that there are no wasted experiences in life. Every experience is beneficial in some way or shape. And it's weird how all these little experiences can add up to one big one. Maybe we left a lasting impression and they'll consider us for a position in the future when the time is right.  Maybe we needed all the interview experience and it will be beneficial later down the road. Maybe it's made us aware of a particular area of S. Cali and we'll end up that direction eventually.  Maybe it was an experience that will strengthen our marriage. I have no clue, but I know there's something beneficial that has/will come from this.

It's just weird how things work sometimes. Right when half my class is leaving for their home countries, the Am teacher quits and I get his position. Coincidence? I don't think so. It's been a very stressful few weeks because everything has just been up in the air. So, I'm glad to at least have an answer about this Boystown deal. And I have a peace that we will end up in the places where we are supposed to be.... I'm anxious to know what the future holds, but at peace. The right doors will open. I know it!

Well, I still have a LOT of updating left to do, but I'll do that in another entry. Right now, I'm waiting for our pizza to get here! Late dinner...haha.  Happy Friday, everyone! :)

No Work Tuesday...

Time for another update! It's been over a week since I last posted! It's been a pretty busy week, or it felt like it anyways. haha. Have been trying to figure out a bridesmaid dress for Bryan and Kristina's wedding in May. D and I have taken turns being sick. It was D's bday. I was trying to organize a birthday gift for him. We've had all the Boystown things. My work is pretty time consuming. D's familia. Lots of things! So here's what our week has looked like:

Tuesday:

Worked and then went to David's Bridal to try on dresses. D was just going to meet me over at the store but I ended up going home to pick him up and I sooooo regretted it! Traffic was horrible on the way home! It wasn't too bad on the way to the store though. So I tried on a bunch of dresses. D was pretty patient considering he hates shopping, especially for things like this!

He looks so cheerful doesn't he? hehe ;)

Me browsing through the dresses

I think this one's my favorite...but I would need to get it hemmed

Plum---the color that we'll be wearing for the wedding

After dress shopping, we decided to eat dinner at a nearby Chinese buffet...yuuum!

It was pretty tasty

Wednesday:
D's 29th birthday!!!This is the day I started getting sick. :(  D'd had a cold over the weekend and he passed it on to me I guess. I woke up on Wednesday feeling all yucky.
Made D french toast for breakfast! We got a package from mi familia filled with all kinds of goodies! Bday cards and gifts for Diego. A card and mail for me! Plus burritos that I'd been hungry for! Yuum!
Getting ready to open his bday card

D looking through his cool fishing book that Jennica got him!

Burritos! Yuuuum!

Card from my m&d

Card for me...

Jennica's bday card for D

haha! hilarious Def right up D's alley...

A handwritten letter from mi hermana!!!!!

D STILL looking at his book...you know he really likes it! (he's not much of a reader)

Making french toast for breakfast

Yum!

D enjoying his breakfast :)

Went to work....At first I didn't think any of my students were going to show, but one of them showed up late. We had a good class, considering it was just one person! haha I let out class a half hour early so that I could run by the grocery store to pick up things for dinner.  I thought for sure that his familia would want to take him somewhere for his bday, so I hadn't really planned much. (They always do everything spur of the moment)...but none of his family even called him. they had celebrated on Sunday, so I guess they figured it was over already. His family isn't really into birthday celebrations.  They usually have a bday cake on the weekend before or after the birthday and that's it. It's definitely different than the way my family does birthdays. They are a HUGE deal in my family! It's strange how families can be so different....takes some getting used to that's for sure.

Anyways, here are some pictures:
I got home from the store and D was chillaxin on the couch

Homemade pizza...i think it was a little TOO healthy for a bday celebration :P

The cake! Poor D had to light his own candles....(I have this crazy fear of fire... Esp when using matches)

Poor D...he had to light his own candles AND sing his own bday song...

Anyways, so D and I just stayed in for his birthday and relaxed. I made homemade pizzas. Picked up some chips and guacamole. Bought a birthday card and rented a movie. I didn't even have a bday gift to give him. (I'm taking him somewhere next week thought.)

For his gift, I'm taking him to a murder mystery dinner theater. hehe. I was trying to get some of his friends/siblings to go, but nada. We were supposed to go this past weekend, but rescheduled since I was sick. Next weekend is filled, so we're going on Tuesday the 14th---Valentine's Day! haha So it's all good...

Thursday:
Was busy w/ work. D went golfing w/ his bro. i worked on lesson plans. Called Kristina to wish her happy birthday and we ended up talking for over an hour. It was nice to catch up!!! OH, Boys town called us and invited us back for a fourth interview! We will be going up to the campus in Trabuco Canyon this time. Schedule to go tomorrow @ 7pm. So we'll see how it goes.... :)

Friday:
D went back to David's Bridal with me again. I tried on a couple more dresses. Went to Panda Express for dinner. Yuuum! I have been OBSESSED w/ Chinese food lately!

Saturday:
D got up really early to go on a hike w/ Larry and Alicia. I still had my cold so I didn't go. I'm trying to remember what we did all day on Saturday...hmmm...I think w just hung around the apt for awhile and then headed over to D's house. There was nobody there at first, except for his dad,but everyone eventually trickled in..

Tried out this new Bingo game w/ D and his dad! I love Bingo!! hehe
We went to Panda Express again for dinner. hehe ;) Headed home fairly early because I still wasn't feeling so well.
Sunday:
Church in the AM! Went to lunch and then hung out @ D's house. Superbowl!!! The football part didn't keep my interest, but it was kind of cool knowing that the event was held in Indianapolis!!! Also, I liked the half time show! Gotta love Madonna!
D got refillable soup @ Boston market...they have really good soup! and it's under $4!
Socializing the doogies...
The game begins....I watched the first hour of the game and the half time show...that's about it...

Chicken wings that Larry and Alicia bought...

Monday: Didn't sleep very well on Sunday night so D and I were both super tired. Worked....Panda Express for dinner! hehe ;)

Today:

Was field trip day so no class! I didn't go on the trip, so I'm working around the house.  I had planned on going for a walk this morning, but I woke up to the sound of rain hitting the window pane...It's all gloomy out...a rainy day in California.. It's also laundry day! haha
I let most of our clothes air dry...
So this is what our house looks like on laundry day..haha
Realized that I hadn't watered the plants in about a month...oops!
That's it for now! Thanks for reading! Hope you have a good afternoon!

I think things went fairly well....

We survived our third Boystown interview....We had to be in Santa Ana by 6pm. Got there just in time in spite of the traffic. I think the interview went fairly well.  There were four people interviewing us! Yikes! But they were all extremely friendly and down to earth. This was the general order of the interview:

1) Introductions
2) General conversation
3) Individual interviews: D first and then me
4) Role Play Scenarios
5) Questions for us together
6) A time for us to ask questions
7) Explanation of the next steps in the process

The interview lasted about an hour and a half.  Honestly, we didn't think it was too bad. I think we were both expecting much tougher questions. I think we did an ok job. It all depends on who else they may be interviewing.  I felt fairly confident with the role plays. It took me back to my days of crisis training for the volunteer crisis center in Laffy. I actually found it quite invigorating! hehe

They should let us know their decision by the end of the week.  Still not sure what to hope for, but definitely more excited after today's interview! The next step would be to go down to one of the group homes for dinner to interact with some of the kids.  The family teachers would be observing us and watching how we get along with the kids. So yeah, I'll let you know what we find out hopefully later this week! :)

I snapped a few photos of the waiting area while they were interviewing D in the conference room.

In other news, here is my weekend in review:

Friday:  The movie "The Grey" came out in theaters and D has been wanting to see it foreeeever! So we went to see that and dragged some of his siblings along.  I really did NOT want to go see it because i knew I wasn't going to like it, but ended up going anyway. It was even WORSE than I had expected. It was the worst movie I've seen in awhile. It had some very bloody, violent moments and was so depressing. Horrible, horrible movie! I wanted to wipe the images from my brain. bleh. D didn't like it either. He had expected more of a basic survival movie, this was almost a horror movie with killer wolves. So we went to the movie and then we went out to eat at Norm's, which is kind of like a Denny's.

Saturday: Hung around the apartment until around 4:30ish.  D woke up not feeling well so he didn't have a bunch of energy.
Breakfast Burrito that I made for D

We hung out at D's fam's house and then eventually went out to eat.

Playing a card game called Speed. So much fun!
We ate @ El Torito in Santa Monica...
Waiting for a table...
It was a pretty nice place...but our server was horrible!
The guys watching the game...

Sunday: D still wasn't feeling well so we didn't make it to church. I think he's getting a bad cold and/or sinus infection.  Alicia and I had planned to have bday cake for D and Larry in the afternoon so we headed over to D's fam's house. Chicho and Crystal decided to cook out for the celebration and bought a ton of food, which was really nice of them!

The hosts of the cookout!

Bigshow!

The only photo of us....D and his droopy eye...his eyes were all swollen from cold/allergies

Bday cakes....the one in the middle is a fake one ...

Joe and his sisters put whipped cream on top and smashed it in Larry's face as a joke...

Poor larry...I was a bit unhappy because I wasn't able to get many photos of them w/ their cakes...grrr... :)

D w/ his cake...

Cutting the cake and digging into the ice cream...
I didn't even get a pic of me and D with his cake :(  It can be difficult adjusting to the way different families celebrate different holidays/events.  I'm used to birthdays being a big deal in my family.  They aren't such a big deal in D's fam.  And they really don't like photos! lol...

Anyways, we hung out there for awhile but D didn't feel go so we left at around 7:30 or so.  Stopped by the grocery store.  I bought a bunch of veggies/chicken to make D some soup because that's what he always wants when he's sick. He didn't ask me to make it but I thought I would be nice. ;) hehe.

Getting ready to make my soup!

Veggies include: a turnip, yucca, celery, squash, carrots, and peppers. Also chicken drumsticks and garlic.

Using my new pot that I got for Christmas from Mom and Dad!

D w/ his soup. It needed a little more salt and pepper...

Very healthy looking...
Well, that's it for today.  I think I'm gonna head to bed. Night everyone! :)
